Battle of Hastings Abbey & Battlefield

On 14 October 1066 an army of invading Normans defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings in East Sussex. Now the whole family can discover the exciting story of that fateful day at the very place it happened. A major new exhibition uses film, computer technology and interactive exhibits to bring to life this bloodiest of conflicts. Enjoy the new audio tour of the 100-acre battlefield, stand on the very spot where King Harold was slain and explore the ruins of the atmospheric abbey, built by William the Conquer to commemorate the thousands who died.

What to do on site?

Discover the battlefield and abbey ruins - suggested time needed: 1 - 2 hours. Take a tour of the historic battle site using one of our audio guides and relive this historic battle. Stand on the very spot where King Harold was slain and roam among the peaceful abbey ruins.

1066: The Battle for England exhibition - suggested time needed: 30 - 40 minutes. A dramatic new film and interactive displays set the scene for your visit to the site of the Battle of Hastings.

Learn about monastic life - suggested time needed: 20 minutes. Climb the spiral stairs in the marvellous gatehouse to learn about the monks who lived here. See artefacts found on the site.

Audio Tour - suggested time needed: 40 minutes - 1.5 hours. Get an in depth tour with the complimentary audio guide.  

Inclusive rail and admission tickets package available; ask at any Southeastern station. It's a great day out for the whole family!
