Chelsea Physic Garden

Chelsea Physic Garden

Situated in the heart of London, Chelsea Physic Garden has a unique and varied collection of around 5000 different plants representing the entire plant kingdom from annuals to forest trees, all set in a delightful green urban oasis.

The Garden's mild microclimate allows many tender plants to flourish and the collection includes the largest olive tree in Britain, an ancient pomegranate and an outdoor grapefruit tree. There are many rare and endangered species and a wide range of medicinal, edible and useful plants. Themed beds include pharmaceutical plants, perfumery, aromatherapy, textiles and dyes.

The oldest botanic garden in London, it was founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries for the purpose of training apprentices in identifying plants. It subsequently became one of the most important centres of botany and plant exchange in the world.

This 'hidden gem' also has a renowned café and a book and gift shop.
