HEAD TO ONE OF THE SOUTH EAST'S MANY FESTIVALS THIS SUMMER AND
GET READY TO JOIN THE PARTY!
Summer's here and with it comes a huge array of festivals. From
dance music to classical concerts, performing arts to beer-tasting,
there is sure to be an event to suit everyone. If it's a laid-back,
mellow vibe you're after, look no further than the
Cambridge Folk Festival (30 July - 2 August). With
a diverse line-up of musical acts offering everything from
traditional country to contemporary jazz and bluegrass, there'll be
plenty to keep your ears entertained. This long-running event
attracts up to ten thousand people each year, so make sure you're
part of the crowd!
With Dame Judi Dench as its President, the Winchester
Festival (10 - 19 July) was always going to be a cultural
affair. It certainly doesn't disappoint, with a variety of art
forms covering music, drama, literature and visual art
performances. Enjoy a creative writing workshop with the writers of
Dr Who or witness an in-depth interview with Dame Judi herself.
Spread the love while you dance to the beat at the ever-popular
Lovebox Weekender (18 and 19 July). Held in
London's Victoria Park, this fun-filled festival is the perfect
place to show off your dance moves to the sound of some of the
world's best bands and D.J.s, including Duran Duran, Groove Armada
and N.E.R.D.
At Merton Farm in Canterbury, they firmly believe that beer and
festivals mix. So much so that they've created the Kent
Beer Festival (16 - 18 July) in association with the
Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), inviting you to come down to the
farm and sample some of the best beers from local breweries and
further afield. With live bands, children's entertainment and, of
course, enough beer to keep you more than merry, this is one summer
event not to be missed.
Where better to hold a summer festival than the stunning
surroundings of the Eastbourne coast? The Eastbourne Lammas
Festival (1 and 2 August) is as British as can be, with
Morris dancing, Pentacle drummers and stalls galore. Perfect for a
family day trip or a seaside outing with friends, join in the
festivities and enjoy the carnival spirit.
