Strolling along the banks of the River Avon, with its quaint canal boats and gently meandering river paths, the hustle-and-bustle of London life could not seem further away. Take this scenic route along well-marked footpaths and you'll soon be marvelling at some of Stratford-upon-Avon's celebrated Shakespearian landmarks, such as the beautiful Holy Trinity Church where the great playwright was laid to rest. Through lush countryside, across open meadows and down pretty tree-lined paths - this wonderfully pleasant walk leads you along the Thames Path, via the peaceful town of Cookham. Take the family on a rural adventure or make a day of it with friends; the route is easy to follow and there are plenty of cosy cafes and traditional restaurants in Cookham town. Whether it's a leisurely wander along the riverbank or an action-packed afternoon of skateboarding and treetop-walking, Maidstone's Millennium River Park is certain to be a winner with the whole family. Situated on the banks of the River Medway, the park stretches from Teston to Allington. Take a gentle stroll down one of the easily accessible paths or, if you're feeling energetic, you can walk the entire length of the park. For those looking for a bit more adventure, head to the Whatman Park recreational area for a range of adrenalin-inducing activities.
