The Foundling Museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital,
Britain's first home for abandoned children and London's first
public art gallery.
The Foundling Museum houses the Hospital's fine collection of
mainly eighteenth century art, tokens left by mothers with their
abandoned children and a gallery display about composer Handel, who
was a major benefactor of the Hospital. The Foundling Museum also
presents changing exhibitions.
From May-September 2012 explore an exhibition focusing on the
world famous 18th century Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, a
place where visitors went to enjoy contemporary music and art,
spectacular design, al fresco dining and beautiful
gardens. This exhibition is accompanied by a series of
concerts and talks.
Throughout the year the Museum will also explore Charles
Dickens' relationship with the Foundling Hospital through events
and exhibits. Please check the Foundling Museum website for further
details.
