popular tourist hot spot because of the many wonderful theatres,
fashionable areas and elite residences. The term 'West End' was
coined back at the start of the 19th century as an ode to the tony
areas to the west of Charring Cross.
The West End is the core of historical London. Reminiscent of the
Roman and Mediaeval eras, London's West End is contained in one of
the 32 boroughs or districts of London - City of Westminster.
Through its development over the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries,
London's West End has metamorphosed into an entertainment zone.
Originally consisting of palaces, ostentatious town houses and chic
shops, today, the area has become a hub of performing arts and
entertainment.
Today, the term 'West End' refers to the areas around Leicester
