Winchester City Museum
New displays and hands-on activities bring to life Winchester's nationally important story. Winchester was a major Roman centre, as Venta Belgarum, and became the principal city of King Alfred and later Anglo-Saxon and Norman kings. The story continues throughout the centuries with Winchester's revival as a fashionable county town in the 18thC.
Reconstructed Victorian and Edwardian High Street shops are reminders of one of Winchester's modern roles. Children's quizzes and dressing-up clothes (edwardian and Saxon). Family fun events during school holidays. Facilities include a lift and a disabled toilet.
