Hampton Court Palace and Maze
If the thought of dragging your children around Henry VIII's stately home makes you want to chop off your own head, just hear us out. At Hampton Court Palace, families are extremely well catered for.
The world famous maze at Hampton Court is intriguing, confusing and lots of fun - plus you get a few minutes peace while the kids try to find their way out. What's not to like?
There is also a royal chocolate kitchen, family trails, drawing workshops and costumed presentations.
And of course, there's a high chance of learning something about Tudor history (but only tell the kids that once you're on the train…)
The clever thing about visiting Kew Gardens is that really it's a massive treat for the grown-ups, yet there's lots of things for children too so they'll think it's all about them.
For instance, there is a human-sized badger sett to explore, a bee garden, a log trail play area and a marine aquarium.
At the "Climbers and Creepers" exhibit, children aged 3 to 9 are "insects" and climb inside a giant plant to learn about pollination.
The London Eye
What can we say? It's a wheel. It's huge. You get to see all of London.
If you haven't done it yet, use this half term to jump on the train and come and experience one of London's most popular attractions. Just try to pick a clear day if you can.
Aimed at children aged three to 15 there really is something for the whole family here.
There are roller coasters, rides and activities in areas themed around Vikings, Knights, Pharaohs and Pirates plus a water park, play areas, puppet shows and even panning for gold!
There's so much here that if you've made the long train journey, consider making a mini break of it and stay at the Legoland resort hotel that has themed rooms and reasonable rates.
