This free-to-enter, family-friendly Museum (estbd.1986) has extensive exhibits, items to touch, films and interactive screens showing nautical history of the Channel coast of S.E England and local geology and fossils.
Travel back in time to 1749 when a Dutch East Indiaman, the Amsterdam, was swallowed in the Hastings shore after storm, mutiny and wrecking. See the treasures from this wreck and from the Warship Anne, the best-known surviving vessel from Charles II’s Restoration Navy.
See our Tudor Falconet gun dating from around 1550 and feel the texture of a 13th century rudder found at Rye Bay. Enter the world of the dinosaurs nearly 140 million years ago and compare your footprint to an Iguanodon footprint. Touch a tree from a prehistoric forest. Try your hand on the ropes and pulleys display.
