It's all about THEME PARKS! Yes - these giant playgrounds are once again open for business with a slew of new rides and attractions to tempt you.
This year’s new attractions includes Lego Movie - 4D A New Adventure featuring characters from the original movie. The 12-minute film features “4D” elements such as wind, water, fog, lighting and other special effects. Also out in full force for 2016 is a new 500,000-brick recreation of Darth Vader’s Death Star - the centre piece of a new finale at the popular LEGO Star Wars™ Miniland Model Display that opened last year. If those don’t appeal, there’s more than 55 other rides, attractions and live shows to keep you busy.
What’s scarier than a ghost train? Derren Brown apparently! This year’s new attraction is Derren Brown Ghost Train - a re-imagining of the ghost train for the 21st century that aims to leave you questioning where perception ends and reality begins. There’s also the usual rollercoaster stalwarts such as Stealth, Nemesis and Colossus plus an Angry Birds 4D experience, dodgems, water slides, log flumes and a beach. If you’re coming a long way by train you could stay overnight at the Shark Hotel.
New attraction Pandamonium launches on 25th March and features life-size and life-like animatronic pandas that like to create chaos on stage. The mystical Trail of the Kings is also being re-launched this year with lots for intrepid explorers to discover. Adventurers can seek out the lost treasure of the kings as they walk among Western Lowland Gorillas and endangered Sumatran Tigers. Chessington Zoo is also expecting a new family member this year - a male Asiatic Lion.
This year travellers to Alton Towers can soar through interstellar space thanks to new interactive attraction Galactica. Adrenaline fans have rollercoasters such as Nemesis, Oblivion and Thi3teen to get their hearts racing while younger visitors will love CBeebies Land featuring favourites such as Mr Bloom, Nina and Mr Tumble.
