Westminster Abbey is steeped in more than a thousand years of history.
Benedictine monks first came to this site in the middle of the tenth century and the Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066. Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were married here in 1947. It is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs and many other great figures in history. The funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, took place in the Abbey in 1997.
The Abbey also contains the magnificent Henry VII chapel which hosts the banners and stalls of the Order of the Bath, one of Britain’s oldest orders of chivalry. The Henry VII chapel is graced with one of the finest vaulted ceilings in Europe and a Battle of Britain memorial window.
