Situated in the historic Town Hall, the Museum of Oxford tells the story of the City of Oxford, its university, history, archaeology, architecture and environment.
Of particular historical interest at the museum is Oxford's 1192 charter, treasures from the Oxford colleges, and also the new 'Explore Oxford' galleries which present the city's story in two very different spaces, the past and the present.
The 'Explore the Past' gallery allows visitors to step back into the late 19th-century, and see what Oxford Council was working on with a walk into City Engineer, William White's office of 1897.
The 'Explore the Present' gallery takes visitors on a virtual high-speed bike ride around Oxford, taking in the city's highlights as well the places you don't normally get to see.
The museum has a collection of period characters from the area, including a Roman Potter, two 13th-century Jewish residents of Oxford, and John Davenant, Mayor of Oxford in the early 1600s, who will tell you the story of the city from their perspective.
The Museum also has an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions and offers tours of the grade II listed Town Hall building every Wednesday and Saturday at 11am.
